Approximately four million people are admitted into intensive care units in the U. S. every year.  A portion of those patients will use a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.  A study from  Johns Hopkins found that a third of the patients on ventilators suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder—or PTSD.  The study was published recently online in the journal Psychological Medicine.

Nathan Sterner talks with the study leader, Dr. Joseph Bienvenu, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins.
