Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Lillian LowerySeptember 11, 2013

As we do every year, we're thinking of all of those affected by the tragic events that took place on this date in 2001.

The school year is underway. If you’re the parent of a school-aged child, you’re probably aware that what your child will need to learn has changed. There are new education standards that all Maryland public schools are now operating under. The standards are known as the Common Core.

With Sheilah in the studio to talk about it is Lillian Lowery, Maryland’s State Superintendent of Schools.

You can learn more abou the Common Core State Standards at the Maryland Department of Education website. They also have more on the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).

Common Socialist Indoctrination!

In MD, English Arts teacher cannot spend more than 30% of time on literary texts and must devote 70% of classroom time to informational reading i.e. Government documents, scientific papers, technical writing, and personal statements ("Dreams of my father" is on the reading list), which does nothing to develop critical thinking. However, it does push diversity/justice/global warming and other liberal agenda. President’s Memoirs are better suited for a Government class. I would like my son to experience and enjoy American and World literature in his English class. Sadly, Shakespeare has been replaced with Obama. In two weeks of school, my son's "English" class discussed the meaning of democracy, fairness, diversity, and the The death of the American dream", which was a video put out by the teamsters and Change to Win. org union members.

Moreover, questions and multiple choice answers that your kid will have to review, are totaly suggestive and filled with PC BS. The student will have to answer the question in an appeasable manner for it to be considered correct.

The PHDs of the CC’s validation committee refused to sign and endorse the final standards report. Hence, the program was concocted, approved, and implemented by bureaucrats in Washington without any input from an education community.
